WELCOME TO LUCY CROFT
We are excited to announce that Lucy Croft has joined Horsfield Menzies as an Associate Solicitor in the Employment team. I managed to sit down and ask her some questions about her career to date and here’s what she had to say:
What’s your career journey been to date?
I actually did an English Language degree, back in 2010 (feels like a long time ago now!) and graduated with a 2:1 in 2013. I then completed a graduate scheme at a large technology company in Manchester. I ended up working there for almost 4 years and gained invaluable skills in business management, project management and negotiation. During my time in the technology sector, I worked closely with in-house Counsel regarding, amongst other things, the terms and conditions that were provided to clients and service level agreements for various products and services. I also assisted with some HR related matters. It was this, coupled with an underlying desire for the law that I had always possessed, that made me pursue a career in law. I completed the Graduate Diploma in Law in 2017 at BPP Law School before completing the Legal Practice Course, simultaneous to my Training Contract, from 2018-2020 and qualifying as a solicitor in 2020. I have been practicing Employment Law exclusively ever since.
I always knew I wanted to do Employment Law as I have a genuine love and passion for business and law; it is the ideal combination for me! My experience in business, working with CEOs, operating at board level and being involved in a business that grew from under 100 people to over 1,000 people, and all that comes with that, coupled with my knowledge of Employment Law really is the perfect storm.
After 5 years, it's time for a new challenge and so here it begins!
What’s been your career highlight?
This is such a hard question, because there are so many - for lots of different reasons, but I think I'd have to say the day I was admitted as a solicitor (obviously) and the feeling of getting the best possible result for your client, even in the trickiest of circumstances... it never gets old - cliche but true!
What excites you about joining Horsfield Menzies?
Everything! I am excited about working with such incredible lawyers and people, growing and developing my career and having the opportunity to really see what can be done! I am extremely passionate about what I do and solving problems, and so I look forward to making a positive difference, adding value and collaboratively working.
What do you like to do when you’re not busy lawyering?
I love to bake, cook and travel/visit new places. I am a sun seeker, adventurer and would class the Lake District as my second home. I believe in making the most of your time and living life, not just being. I go to the gym most days before work, have competed in Hyrox and enjoy climbing mountains, and hiking, as much as a good bottomless brunch! Louis, my French Bulldog, keeps me busy and seeks a significant amount of my attention!
